The boyfriend of tragic Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has been arrested on suspicion of abetting her suicide. Suraj Pancholi, the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was apparently the man mentioned in her suicide letter as the one who "ruined" her life.

On June 4, Khan's lifeless body was found hanging in her apartment in Mumbai, India. At that time, police said no suicide note had been found.

However, her family allegedly found a note in her handbag, in which she revealed being a victim of rape and abuse. They gave the letter to the police on Saturday.

According to the letter, Khan, 25, held an unnamed person responsible for her sufferings. She also mentioned getting an abortion and being raped and tortured.

Her mother Rabiya has gone to the police earlier Monday to accuse Surah, 22, of being the man Khan was referring to in her letter. Surah was reportedly in a relationship with her, and was the last person the actress spoke to on phone before she took her own life.

The letter's appearance prompted police to consult legal experts about its content before deciding to arrest Suraj, Times of India reported.

Before Khan's suicide, Suraj had spent two nights with her, the police have said. On her last day, she called him to say she wanted to meet him, but he refused. Their conversation then turned into an argument.

Police have been examining Khan's phone for more information. They have also visited her residence to search for more clues.

Her mother also held a press conference on Monday to claim that her daughter's suicide was due to her troubled relationship with her boyfriend, and not because of her lack of assignment, as what reports claimed.

"My point is to tell you the truth. It is being said that she was depressed and had no work, but it was not the case," Rabiya said. "She was attending at least three to four events a month. She was making money and was living comfortably in her house with two maids and even had a car and a driver.

"It was the insecurity that her love was not respected and recognised that was killing her day by day."

Khan, born Nafisa Khan, made her debut in 2007 in the industry with the film "Nishabd." She was born in New York City to a Hindi film actress mother (Rabiya) and an Indian American father. She grew up in London before moving to India to start a career in Bollywood.

Her last film was in 2010, in which she played a supporting role in the comedy "Housefull."
