The clamour of Manny Pacquiao finally meeting Floyd Mayweather inside the ring is already bordering frustration, to say the least, but the much-anticipated superbout isn't about to happen anytime soon as Jessie Vargas revealed that he might be the Filipino boxer's next adversary.

Years have already passed since the prospect of having Pacquiao see Mayweather eye to eye within the confines of a rope-secured stage, yet all the fight fans get are trading of barbs, at best, without even attempting to reduce the matter to formal talks.

Vargas, who is an up and coming talent belonging to the same promotion - Top Rank - as "Pacman," needs a vast exposure to further his career and Bob Arum is doing just that.

Listed as an undercard to the "Pacquiao vs. Agieri" clash, the reigning WBA light welterweight champion, who boasts of a 25-0 record, confirmed that word has been spreading regarding a possible fixture with the fighting congressman from the Philippines during a press conference on Thursday.

"Yes, I have," he said.

"I have spoken to Mr. Arum and it's definitely a possibility."

"But right now, we're focused 100 per cent on November 22nd and defeating and knocking out Antonio Demarco. And that's the only thing we're focused on right now."

"God willing, everything goes as planned."

"That name [Pacquiao] has been spoken up and it's definitely a fight that could be the next one for us."

Meanwhile, Vargas' trainer, Roy Jones Jr., intimated that his ward has heavily improved on his game since the successful title defence against Anton Novikov.

"I am working with five fighters right now but Jessie is my first champion," Jones was quoted on fightnews.com.

"We worked on Jessie's mechanics for the first four weeks before we began sparring."

"He's developing more speed - and more speed means more power."

"My plan is to work Jessie's corner in Macau, then go back to ringside and call the fights for HBO Pay-Per-View."

"Clash in Cotai II" will be held at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macau, China on November 23.
