World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organisation middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is less than a week from his unification bout with International Boxing Federation middleweight champ David Lemieux. Both fighters are growing confident heading into their bout but Golovkin seems to be the most poised as the Kazakh fighter intends to bring all kinds of fight to the Canadian boxer.

“Of course I’m ready 100 per cent [for the knockout],” Golovkin told Boxing Scene. “I’m going to bring a big present for people.”

Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) was also quoted several months ago as saying that he felt “scared” heading into his first pay-per-view bout against Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs). But “GGG” has cleared the air, revealing that his sense of fear is only at “one per cent.”

Meanwhile, Lemieux is convinced he has what it takes to beat Golovkin, brushing off the odds that heavily favour the undefeated Kazakh. Lemieux also said that he wants a harder fight with Golovkin, so he could feel better with his accomplishment after the bout. However, according to Dan Ambrose of Boxing News 24, the Canadian’s plan may not work in his favour.

“ Lemieux could find out quickly that it’s too difficult a task, and then wind up getting routed completely by Golovkin,” Ambrose wrote. “I think there’s a good chance that Lemieux might get blown out in 4 rounds or less like Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez has predicted.”

Ambrose noted that Sanchez has been correct in his predictions of Golovkin’s previous fights against Willie Monroe Jr, Martin Murray, Matthew Macklin, Daniel Geale, Marco Antonio Rubio, and Curtis Stevens. Ambrose added that Sanchez’s fearless forecast was based on Golovkin’s history of crushing aggressive fighters, which is the way that Lemieux will be doing.

The Golovkin-Lemieux bout will happen on Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Both fighters will be making their debut on HBO’s pay-per-view platform.
