With more than one and a month half away from the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight, Freddie Roach is in full trash talk mode saying that Cotto’s Mexican opponent is not “that great a fighter” and that Cotto will get Alvarez “in the later rounds” of their fight set on Nov. 21, 2015 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.

“We’ve got a game plan that we’ll work on but I don’t think Alvarez is that great a fighter. I’ve seen him train at my Wild Card gym before and I don’t think he’s the hardest worker in the world,” Roach told boxingnewsonline.net. “My guy will beat him on condition alone, we’ll take him into deep water and get rid of him in the later rounds.”

The Cotto vs. Canelo fight is considered one of the best upcoming fights to end the year and the biggest fight since the “Fight of the Century” between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather since May.

The fight might not draw the same attendance record and pay-per-view sales as the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout but the large fan base of both fighters, Cotto from Caguas, Puerto Rico and Alvarez from Juanacatlan, Jalisco, Mexico, is expected to attract big numbers.

Roach admitted in the same interview that the Cotto vs. Canelo fight would be big because of the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry angle. Roach added that he sees Cotto, despite being older than Alvarez, as the better-conditioned fighter and that the Puerto Rican will go for the knockout against the Mexican.

Alvarez, who has a career record of 41 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw with his only loss coming against Mayweather in 2013, will be battling Cotto, who has a 40-4-0 record, for the World Boxing Council middleweight title.
