Australian boxer Danny Green has set his eyes on a rematch against WBC Silver Super Welterweight champion Anthony Mundine ever since declaring his return to the boxing ring. After a victorious comeback in his fight against Argentine boxer Roberto Bolonti last week, Green seems to move closer in a long-awaited rematch with the Indigenous champ. However, Mundine’s manager Ben Thompson slammed Green’s call for a challenge, saying that “The Green Machine” is only “talking nonsense.”

Thompson claimed Green is only using Mundine’s name to get publicity for his fights. Thompson also hit at Green’s recent match against Bolonti, saying that the Australian boxer’s show was only a third of the size that Mundine versus Sergey Rabchenko was.

“One moment Danny is telling Anthony he needs to fight him, the next he says he doesn’t need him. He’s basically talking nonsense,” Thompson said, reports Boxing Scene.

However, Thompson also admitted that Mundine could consider a fight with the 42-year-old Green if he is serious by getting down in weight and fighting a genuine Australian light-heavyweight like Blake Caparello or Sakio Bika. Mundine is still to find an opponent for a scheduled fight on Oct. 14 in Melbourne.

Green had his first fight in almost three years on Wednesday at Hisense Arena. Green, who has a record of 35 wins and five losses, along with 28 knockouts, defeated Bolonti, 36 wins and four losses, in 10 rounds via unanimous decision.

Green dominated from the outset, but the opening rounds were low on scoring punches, with Bolonti absorbing punishment. Green stepped up in the sixth round launching a huge body shot at Bolonti, but the Argentine boxer was still unmoved. Bolonti, on the other hand, made some wild attempts for a quick knockout, but failed to land any. After the fight, Green called out Mundine for a possible rematch that could happen next year.

Green also took a swipe at Mundine, who has so far resisted his call for another duel with the pair unable to come to financial terms.

"I ask the people of Australia who they will pay to see fight more, me or Anthony Mundine? The pay-per-view figures tell the story,” Green said, reports 9news.
