Ricky Hatton believes that Floyd Mayweather will win over Manny Pacquiao in their big bout in May. The former boxer who is now a boxing promoter says that Pacquiao’s style has the chance to beat Mayweather but opined that the American will still come out victorious in Las Vegas.

Nicknamed “The Hitman”, Hatton is one of the few fighters who have fought both Mayweather and Pacquiao.

“Although I think Manny’s got the style to beat him, I’m still going to go with Mayweather,” Hatton said to The Guardian. “He always finds a way to win. He’s a very, very clever fighter, Manny, but you’d have to say the cleverest fighter in boxing is Mayweather. He adapts his style against whatever opponent he faces. I think he’ll do the same to Manny. I can’t for the life of me think Freddie Roach has told [Manny] to jump all over him, because everyone’s tried that, me included, and everyone’s failed. It’s going to take someone of similar speed – which Pacquiao has got – and someone who’s got fast feet, able to get in and out.”

Hatton, who is from Manchester, Lancashire in the United Kingdom, retired from the sport in 2012 after losing to Vyacheslav Senchenko in a ninth round knockout. His most infamous loss came against Pacquiao, who knocked out Hatton in the second round of a match in 2009. Hatton also lost via a technical knockout to Mayweather in a bout in 2007.

Hatton also mentioned Mayweather’s bouts against Zab Judah in 2006 and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 as the fights wherein the American had to work hard to earn the victory. Hatton also advised Pacquiao to “shuffle in and out” and “throw a lot of punches” against Mayweather if he wants to come out victorious in the big bout in May.
