About three months removed from the “Fight of the Century” between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, the undefeated American is still defending the bout, which was perceived by many boxing observers and pundits as a lacklustre match-up given the hype and anticipation for the event.

"The fans have to be mad at [Manny] Pacquiao," Mayweather Jr. said in an interview with Jim Gray of Showtime. “They can't be mad at me. I've done my job. I never said I was a checkers player. I'm a chess player. I play chess. Every move is calculated. But the fans should've thought about that when I was running through everybody at one particular time."

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight last May 2, 2015 shattered the previous records in pay-per-view buys and live gate sales and attendance, among many other boxing records, but the fight failed to impress the fans and critics with the lack of action on top of the squared ring.

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via a 12-round unanimous victory with judges’ scores of 116-112, 118-110 and 116-112 all for the American, who improved his record to 48-0-0 (26 knockouts). The defeat was the third in the last six bouts for the Filipino pugilist, who dropped to 57-6-2 (38 knockouts).

Mayweather Jr. has always justified his fighting style saying in the past that he’s at his best when being a defensive fighter first rather than on attack mode. Mayweather Jr. is touted for his excellent defensive skills and is considered one of the best defensive fighters in the history of the sport.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao is known more as a fighter who aims for knockouts in his fights. However, he revealed a shoulder injury after the fight and was criticized for agreeing to the fight even though he’s not 100% healthy.

Mayweather Jr. is set to fight unheralded Andre Berto in September, a bout which the American boxer has said to be the last fight in his career. Meanwhile, Pacquiao is still recuperating from his shoulder injury and is rumoured to be fighting British boxer Amir Khan in 2016.
