Gearbox Software, developer of the Borderlands Franchise, has announced that the latest installment, "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel," will have four DLC add-on packs included in a Season Pass.

This was announced over the PAX panel of the studio, where it was also revealed that the Pre-Sequel Season Pass will be worth $29.99. That's less than $30 worth of new missions and characters for all the four DLCs. Game Informer adds that those who don't want to get all four DLC packs can opt to buy them individually at $9.99 apiece.

For fans who will be preordering the game, bonus content is in the form of a Shock Drop Slaughter Pit. VG 24/7 reports that this DLC will also be sold after the release, but it will be a separate one that's not included in the four-pack Season Pass.

Under all of this, "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" seems to be shaping up into a title that features Handsome Jack, "Borderlands 2" villain, and the events that happened to him before he became the distinct villain that he was.

According to Polygon, Handsome Jack will be a playable character in the mentioned DLC for "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel." But this playable character, while looking a lot like Handsome Jack because of heavy modifications, is actually a body double serving as a bodyguard for Handsome Jack.

Considering that this is the game coming between "Borderlands 2" and the planned but not yet official "Borderlands 3" titles, the developers shared that they are doing "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" in an attempt to tell more stories about the well-loved characters of the franchise.

"It gave us some interesting ideas and options, where Handsome Jack isn't the bad guy. If Handsome Jack's the good guy, who are the playable characters? So we took some bosses from 'Borderlands 2,' made them more likable and playable and went from there," Borderlands writer Anthony Burch said in an exclusive with Wired.

What's changed but at the same time familiar with "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" in relation to the franchise is its humor. On the one hand, the developers assure that the jokes and humor will be retained as it's already part of what makes "Borderlands" a franchise. But on the other hand, it's revealed that no one who had previously worked on any "Borderlands" title will work on "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel," seeing as how it's mainly handled by 2K Australia. This means that European and Australian jokes will abound this time around.

"Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" will be out on Oct. 14 on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and Linux.
