Staten Island’s iconic Holtermann’s Bakery was closed to the public just last Friday to make room for what appears to be a filming for “The Blacklist” season 4.

A lot of trailers, producers, props, staff, cameras, lights and a huge number of vintage cars were seen on the location on that day, which made the filming look even more official. The Great Kills neighbourhood of Staten Island, New York appeared to be in another era on that day, as seen in a report by Silive.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “The Blacklist” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

The setting was made to be an old time automotive repair shop in Cuba which also doubles as a bakery.

The neighbourhood old timer Holtermann’s Bakery warmly welcomed the cast and crew of the well acclaimed American crime thriller television series, which stars James Spader. Spader appears on the show as Raymond “Red” Reddington, a former FBI agent who disappeared for twenty years and suddenly appears to promise his old colleagues that he will help in the apprehension of his other former co-agents and high-profile criminals.

The crew of “The Blacklist” reportedly picked Holtermann’s Bakery when a scout for the show was surfing the web. The scout was captivated by the layout of the island’s icon, which has been known for its breads, old fashioned cookies and a lot of other treats for the past 130 years.

The iconic bakery was founded in 1878 by Klaus Holtermann, who built the shop himself by hand from scratch. It was briefly called the Arthur Kill bakery, since it was setup on Arthur Kill St. In Great Kills, Staten Island.

The bakery had always been in family hands and is still managed by generations of the Holtermann family. It is one of the borough’s most well loved old timers and has grown to be an icon not only in the neighbourhood, but in the rest of New York, as well, according to another post by Silive.

The crew then came out to see the location personally and immediately decided that it would be the perfect place to film the next season. Bakery manager Jill Holtermann Bowers says that the cast and the crew were very nice in dealing with them.

"Blacklist" season 4 is set to return to NBC on September 22, 2016. It also airs on Channel 7 in Australia.
