“The Blacklist” Season 4 is set to premiere on Sept. 22, 2016. NBC made the announcement recently, and the story will most likely delve more on the relationship of Liz (Megan Boone), Red (James Spader), Tom (Ryan Eggold) and villain Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Tomsen).

Although fans initially thought that Liz was killed off after suffering from a childbirth complication, it turned out that she only faked her death to get away from Red.

In the Season 3 finale, Kirk was also shown to be the real father of Liz. Kirk’s plan with Liz remains uncertain and the latter also does not trust him at all.

Entertainment Weekly revealed that Liz pushed away Red again for fear that he will endanger her baby. She will be taking on her real identity, Masha Rostova, and shedding her persona as Elizabeth Keen.

“The Blacklist” executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath stated that there are still questions about Kirk that will be answered in the next season. Bokenkamp said that Liz should believe Kirk in saying that he is her father, since there is no reason for him to lie about it. Eisendrath added that Kirk’s true intentions with Liz is still in doubt and it is still unclear whether he is there to help or destroy her.

Deadline wrote that in the meantime, Tom and baby Agnes are alive, although they remain unaccounted for. Season 4 will explain why Kirk had to go through all the trouble to get to Liz, instead of simply reaching out to her. Red has more secrets about Liz and her family. His self-interest is also driven by his history, which Kirk is a part of.

Bokenkamp said that there is a lot of story to tell about Kirk and Red. In Season 4, Red will be very busy trying to locate Liz. Their relationship will continue to be the focal point of the series, although there will be significant changes in the characters after Liz faked her death.

“The Blacklist” Season 4 is set to air on Sept. 22, 2016 on NBC. It also airs on Channel Seven in Australia.
