Blackberry announced its acquisition of Good Technology for $425 million in order to bring complementary capabilities and technologies to its services. Both the companies will work together on creating a comprehensive management solution for all mobile devices, protecting security and privacy.

“We are excited to join BlackBerry, where together we will be the most comprehensive mobile platform in the market,” said Christy Wyatt, Good Chairman and CEO.

For more than two decades, Blackberry has been providing the most secure mobility solutions and has been globally recognised by government certifications. In collaboration with Good, the company will now expand its presence with global enterprise and government customers. BlackBerry is the trusted mobility partner of all G7 governments and with this association the company will further augment its sales and distribution capabilities.

“By providing even stronger cross-platform capabilities our customers will not have to compromise on their choice of operating systems, deployment models or any level of privacy and security,” said John Chen, BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO in a press release on Friday.

This merger will also help BlackBerry battle against Citrix Systems, MobileIron and VMware’s AirWatch in the device-management space, reports The Australian. With this acquisition customers will enjoy the integration of capabilities across multiple applications, including BBM, WatchDox, Good Work and other value-added services.

Good Technology is well-known for delivering the utmost levels of security across operating systems and application. Its trusted solutions will elevate the partnership to a different level. Good technology enjoys a rich portfolio of 6200 organisations in 189 countries including leaders in the healthcare, manufacturing, retail sectors as well as commercial banks, aerospace and defense firms The clientele of Good’s include Barclays, Northern Trust and the US Navy.

According to Mail Online, Blackberry will bring together Good Technology’s secure e-mailing apps with its expertise in helping companies manage and secure thousands of connected tablets and phones, mentioned Chen.

Good Technology filed IPO plans in May 2014 but postponed the public offering considering the deteriorating market conditions. Blackberry said that the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and expected to be completed by the end of the third fiscal quarter of 2016. The company also confirmed that it expects to realise about $US160 million in revenue from Good Technology transaction in the first year after closing.
