Two months before its publication, Billy Joel has changed his mind and decided to cancel his memoir.

The piano man said in a statement sent to the Associated Press that he has chosen to keep his past to himself and has called off the publication of his memoir titled, “The Book of Joel”.

"It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I'm not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music," Joel was quoted as saying by the Associated Press in a statement.

Joel’s decision to cancel his book came after HarperCollins, the company which agreed to publish the memoir revealed the cover photograph earlier this month.

HarperCollins also confirmed that the deal had been cancelled, said the Associated Press after the book’s editor made the promise that it would include details ‘he has never revealed before”.

The publishing company already promoted the book as an ‘emotional ride’ that would disclose the details of the ‘music legend’s failed marriages’ and his struggles in fighting the use of illegal drugs.

According to the Associated Press, HarperCollins spokeswoman, Tina Andreadis said that the book is already in the editing process when the deal was off but asserted that no copy has been printed out of the 250,000 the publication had earlier announced.

Andreadis also said that Joel has not given the green light for the book and the text has yet to be finalized.

The book was earlier announced for release in June 2011.

Joel is considered as one of the music industry’s greatest artists. He is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and had sold millions for his hits including, “Uptown Girl”, "New York State of Mind" and "Just the Way You Are".
