"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 3 will open with "Saturday Night Live," or “SNL,” alum and "Trainwreck" star Bill Hader as the new captain. In the finale of Season 2, fans saw the departure of Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) and Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) after bureau chief Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick) "promoted" him to head the Department of Public Relations. The closing scene showed Lt. Jake Peralta, played by another SNL alumnus Andy Samberg, looking stunned as the elevator door opened to "reveal" the new chief.

Entertainment Weekly reports that nothing much has been revealed about Hader's character yet except that he is "efficient." The show also hasn't said how many episodes the "Skeleton Twins" star will appear in.

Meanwhile, fans will be happy to know that Braugher and Peretti will not be leaving the show. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, or THR, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" creator Dan Goor said that the two are still regulars but will be performing in a different capacity.

"If we got rid of them, Fox would have the right to call the police, handcuff us, and throw us off of cliffs. They are critical, wonderful cast members who are incredibly funny,"Goor told THR.

He also hinted that a new "Gina" to complement the new captain's character might be put in place. TV Line reports "The Good Wife's" Archie Panjabi will also be a guest star as Lieutenant Knox, who has the hots for Detective Charles Boyle, played by Joe Lo Truglio. She will first appear in the second episode, which airs October 4.

Bill Hader also co-stars in the upcoming mockumentary "Documentary Now" with former SNL member Fred Armisen. The show, which airs on IFC on August 20, features two journalists in an edgy news agency named Dronez.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns on September 27 at 8:30 p.m./7:30c on Fox.
