The Biggest Breakups of 2011 [PHOTOS]

The number of celebrities who broke up this year is really soaring high. They were way too numerous that you can challenge each other to know how many of them would you be able to recall.

As Ashton Kutcher once said, "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world." And with he and Demi Moore separating, everyone can say that yes, it is truly hard.

For a wide array of reasons, here are the 2011 celebrity couples who made it to this list of the most controversial breakups this year:

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. This May-December love story tied the knot last 2005 in Beverly Hills. By November 17, 2011, Moore made a statement that she was divorcing Kutcher for reason of holding true to the vows and values that she believes are sacred and certain.

Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel. When Zooey Deschanel was set to star in "New Girl," it somehow meant a new life too for her. She was married to the frontman of the independent band Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Gibbard two years ago in 2009. It was just this November 1 when they confirmed that they were breaking up.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Of course, who would not miss this whirlwind marriage and divorce? This marriage only lasted for a total of 72 days and the beautiful socialite was consistent on turning down the rumours that everything was just a great big lie.

Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. This Latin couple exchanged vows in 2004, renewed it by 2008, and ended it in 2011. They released a joint statement where both agreed that it was a very tough decision for the two of them. They have two beautiful twins, Emme and Max.

Elisabetta Canalis and George Clooney. This couple just announced their separation straight and simple with having to say, "We are not together anymore." They started dating in 2009 and it was in January that Clooney said he would never get married again. We're guessing this separation is another proof of that.

Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn. This one is what you may call as rebound relationship. Just like that of Kim's, this whirlwind relationship did not last longer than they overnight getaway to Mexico and even with their decision of living together.

Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper. The Sexiest Man Alive was very private about his relationship with 'Bridget Jones' star Renee even if there were reports they had even lived together in 2010. They met in the set of 'Case 39' but their breakup was confirmed just this middle of March.
