“Big Brother Australia” said goodbye to Jason Roses after Aisha and Travis declined the $50,000 self-eviction prize money on Wednesday night.

Aisha and Travis

On Tuesday’s eviction night, Aisha and Travis faced a dilemma presented by Big Brother himself. They could take $50,000 to split between the two of them but they would have to self-evict immediately. Should they decide to take the cash, they would need to leave the house on Wednesday, which would call off the impending eviction. They had 24 hours to decide in the sanctuary.

Unfortunately for the rest of the nominees – Priya, David and Jason, the eviction had to take place because Aisha and Travis refused the cash.

Jason’s Eviction

The news was perhaps even more devastating for Jason, who had the least number of votes to save on the second eviction night of the week. It didn’t show in his face, though. In fact, if anything, he looked overly psyched to get out of the house and see more faces.

He is the most energetic evictee to date for 2014, even more enthusiastic than Jake, who couldn’t contain his excitement after leaving the house. Immediately upon appearing in the studio, he took off his suit jacket and threw it on the audience. He then ran on the ramp towards host Sonia Kruger, only to run back and towards her again.

“That’s a Tom Cruise moment,” Sonia told him after Jason jumped on the sofa, emulating the Hollywood A-lister during his infamous visit to Oprah Winfrey’s show.

Jason only mellowed down when Sonia asked him about his letter to his parents, who, according to him, weren’t accepting of his homosexuality.

“It was a letter to them,” Jason’s voice cracked before letting his tears fall. “I just hope I made them proud.”

They were proud of him. His parents came to the eviction and surprised him on stage, prompting the normally bubbly 27-year-old auctioneer to burst into more tears.

Post-Eviction Interviews

As Jason had mentioned in the Big Brother house, his family wasn’t supportive of his coming out as a gay man. That’s usually the topic that had got the flamboyant housemate down.

Jason later told former housemate Benjamin Norris that his dad only recently met his partner, and his mum and the rest of the family made it clear that they had no intention of doing so. But after his emotional reunion with them on stage, it seemed that his parents now accept him for who he is.

“They caught me totally by surprise. I got super emotional. It showed that everything I’d been hoping for and wanting maybe had happened,” he said.

His partner is in a similar situation as he was in. Jason could be heard talking about his boyfriend in the house, but he never mentioned his name, that’s because he was trying to protect his identity.

“I haven’t said his name for that reason – his family difficulty is very sensitive and probably worse than mine,” he explained, adding that he would be reunited with him soon.

Jason will be back on being a regular guy out of the cameras, saying that he will not be extending his 15 minutes of fame once the novelty of it dies down.

“I didn’t go on this to be famous. I did it for the experience.”

Jason is one of the most outspoken critics of his fellow housemates Cat and Lawson’s love affair. He has told Big Brother and every other housemate how disapproving he was of their relationship because Lawson has a long-term girlfriend outside the house.

“My heart goes out to her, it really does,” he told Daily Mail Australia of Candice Leeder, Lawson’s girlfriend.

Although Jason said that both Cat and Lawson are equally to be blamed for entering a forbidden relationship, he was more critical of the 30-year-old midwife, saying she was “desperate” to become the next Aisha and Travis in the house.

“Cat very desperately wants it to be how Travis and Aisha are,” he said. “Cuddling on the couch and kissing like they do. She is trying to get that from Lawson so desperately.”
