Formula One, or F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has revealed the reason why he hasn’t paid Michael Schumacher a visit since the seven-time world champion’s catastrophic skiing accident in December 2013. It isn’t because Ecclestone is too busy to visit a sick friend, it is because he can’t stomach seeing a frail Schumacher.

In an issue of F1 Racing magazine, the fans got the chance to send in their questions for Ecclestone and one fan was eager to find out why the 84-year-old British business magnate doesn’t come to visit the German racing ace. For Ecclestone, he finds it difficult to see Schumacher in such condition.

“I don’t want to see Michael like that,” Ecclestone said. “I remember Michael as he was, that is how I want to see Michael, if he comes back, that is how I want to see Michael to be.”

Ecclestone’s friendship with Schumacher goes back 20 years ago. However, Ecclestone has not paid Schumacher a visit even once since the retired German F1 racing legend’s accident in the slopes of Meribel in December 2013. Schumacher sustained serious brain trauma as a result of the accident that left him in medically-induced coma for almost six months.

Back in March, Ecclestone told German news outlet Welt am Sonntag that he knew nothing of Schumacher’s health condition adding that it would have been “more logical” if Schumacher had his accident while racing.

On the topic of Schumacher’s latest health condition, there hasn’t been that much update shared publicly by the former Ferrari driver’s family. It has been reported that Schumacher is currently undergoing rehabilitation treatment at his Lake Geneva mansion.

Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has recently defended the family’s secrecy surrounding his recovery. Kehm told German newspaper Der Spiegel that Schumacher has always been a very private person. She said that he has always kept his private life away from the spotlight.

“Michael always had strict rules that we worked out together,” Kehm said. “He kept his job strictly separately from the private side, and he never deviated from that.”
