Ben Counsin's father made a pact with his son to always speak to him if the AFL superstar has suicidal thoughts, as he fought his drug addiction.

"I ended up having a pact with him that if he ever felt like that, that he would always speak with me," Mr Cousins said.

In the second installment of Ben Cousins' documentary Such is Life, the sports star's father revealed that his son would have died if Ben was not included in the 209 pre-season draft.

"I think the process he went through, where clubs said they were going to pick him up and then they didn't, it was one hit after the other and he - rightfully or wrongfully - had the view that footy had abandoned him."

Meanwhile,West Australia police have ruled out investigating the drug use seen in the docomentary. However, Victoria Police will proceed with an investigation if it is revealed that Cousins used drug in the state.
