UK broadcaster BBC has apologised Thursday after it accidentally showed an image of Prince William with a penis drawn on his head. The oversight occurred when the morning show BBC Breakfast aired a clip of a music video of the singing comedy group Barbershopera.

During a teaser for the show’s upcoming feature about the quartet, the program showed a short clip from the group’s song “I Could Have Married Kate,” which showed the image of Prince William with a goatee, eyeglasses, and penis drawn on his head.

Viewers who saw the gaffe quickly took to Twitter to report the incident,

“How did #BBCBreakfast not notice the embellishment to our future king’s forehead?” Tweeter user Jonny Gray wrote, attaching a screen grab of the image.

Another named Gaz Roberts added, “Comedy hand-drawn penis on Prince William’s forehead just spotted on #bbcbreakfast #childish #giggle”

A spokeswoman for the network has issued a statement of apology for their blunder, saying, “This image was shown fleetingly within a comedy promotional video for Barbershopera, a humorous barbershop group, who were appearing later on in the programme.

“The material was provided by Barbershopera but we failed to spot the offending material within it. We apologise for this.”

The song “I Could Have Married Kate” is about four dejected people who think that it should have been them marrying Kate Middleton and not the royal prince.

The video of which was uploaded on YouTube in April 2011, just days before Kate became Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge upon her marriage to William. The royal couple have just became first-time parents on July 22, 2013 when their son Prince George Alexander Louis was born.
