There’s a lot to look forward to with EA and DICE’s “Battlefield 1.” The developer has not only showcased the new gameplay trailer for the game, seen below, but also detailed one of the new game modes.

Dubbed Operations, the new game mode will change up the way a round in the game moves. The new mode will allow players to move through several maps based on WWI while keeping the previous rounds’ effects

“In it, the outcome of the current round carries over to the next map, giving you the opportunity to fight a sequence of inter-connected battles,” said the developer in the official website.

This gives a new meaning to depth and vastness in the “Battlefield 1” universe. Winners who move on to the next map can actually see the battlefield that they just left over the horizon. Attackers and defenders will have different jobs and objectives in Operations.

As the positions go, attackers will target defensive positions and capture them. Defenders will need to man and defend these sectors. Failure to do so will result in them falling back and regrouping in a different map, as the attacks continue.

“We wanted to create a Battlefield experience that was not just bite-sized, but actually spanned beyond an hour of playtime. Something epic and compelling for players who wanted a chance to immerse themselves in this first global war, and capture the stories of how different battles were deeply connected to one another.”

The developer has also given some details surrounding some game mechanics. As compiled by DualShockers, “Battlefield 1” will have dynamic weather to make survival even more challenging to players. More than this, the weather dynamic will also allow a differentiated experience, as no battlefield will be the same. The changing weather will force players to think on their feet on what they will need to do to survive.

Intuitive destruction will also be present, so that players can try breaking their way through buildings and terrains. The transformation of the terrain from a full untouched landscape to one that reflects the destruction of war will be an interesting take on the game.

Fans who have been waiting for more vehicle usage in a “Battlefield” title will not be disappointed. “Battlefield 1” will feature what are called Behemoths. These are supposedly vehicles that are fully player-controlled. Their goal is to break the enemy’s defense, and they can obviously do the job, since these are the largest vehicles to be introduced in the franchise that are fully controllable.

Even more interesting is how these different elements come together on the battlefield. In an onslaught of details, PC Gamer highlighted a few important pointers from the hands-on preview of the game.

It seems that the aforementioned controllable vehicles will also be destructible. What’s even more amazing is that, if it ever crashes or destroys a part of the map, the destroyed vehicle will then become part of the new environment, adding to the war-torn atmosphere of the map. The same goes for most of the buildings in the map—putting a different spin on destructible environments on a deeper level.
