Fans and viewers clearly saw General Zod, played by Michael Shannon, die at the hands of Superman in “Man of Steel.” However, the persistent rumours of his return to “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” may have just been further fuelled by one scene in the film.

There have been previous speculations that General Zod will make a comeback in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The three-minute long trailer released for the film during the San Diego Comic-Con may have just given a hint to the villain’s return, according to You Tube user Mr. Sunday. One scene in the leaked video trailer shows some military men pushing a heavy steel crate with the “USAMRIID” printed on its head. Mr. Sunday said this could hint Zod’s “return presumably under the care of the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.” (See video below at the 2:19 time stamp).

General Zod’s possible appearance in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” also fuels those previous rumours of Lex Luthor using the general’s body in his research about Kal El. A source previously revealed to Geek Tyrant that Lex is holding on to General Zod’s corpse to study it so he could further understand Superman. One scene in the film reportedly even shows the caped crusader breaking into Lexcorp to steal some kryptonite where he saw Zod’s dead body being stored.

According to Mr Sunday, Lex is making use of General Zod’s DNA so he could create his weapon against the film’s heroes. It’s believed Lex is making his version of Doomsday to fight off Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

It was reportedly during Lex’s study of Zod’s corpse that he accidentally “triggers the Doomsday genome.” Comic Book previously claimed that Michael Shannon may return to “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” to portray Doomsday. “Once he's Doomsday, of course, it's likely that Zod's body will take on the appearance of Doomsday and from that point on he could be anybody,” writer Russ Burlingame said.

Michael Shannon also stirred rumours he has a role in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The actor was reportedly spotted back in November hanging out on the set with Superman star Henry Cavill.
