The success of “Deadpool” appears to have fueled an interest in R-rated versions on future superhero movies, including “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Director Zack Snyder has now confirmed that there will be an R-rated version of the movie that will also be released.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder said that movies like “Deadpool” were “encouraging” to him because it proves that the audience wants movies from the director’s individual point of view. Producer Deborah Snyder pointed out that the R-rated version of their forthcoming movie was not a reaction to “Deadpool.”

"We didn't just shoot it last week, and we also didn't edit it last week," Deborah Snyder explained. Zack Snyder said that the DVD version was half hour longer than the theatrical version, because he added many scenes that he had taken out, to get the rating he wanted.

The DVD version has some additional violent scenes, which made the MPAA give it an R rating. The director pointed out that there is no nudity in the DVD version of “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the rating was because of the violent scenes.

Scenes of Jena Malone will be added in the DVD version of the movie, Entertainment Weekly reports. Fans speculated that she will be playing either Batgirl or Robin, but the director confirmed that she is not playing either of these characters. Zack Snyder did not reveal what character Malone was playing and said that they are going to keep that information “private” at the moment.

The “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” DVD version will also be used to tease future DC movies like “Justice League.” Zack Snyder said that the movie will also reveal “what’s gonna go on in the greater ‘Justice League’ universe.” While the theatrical release of the movie is set for March 24 in Australia, the DVD version is set to be released in the summer.
