#SadAffleck is now trending. Ben Affleck has become a meme following his joint interview with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” co-star Henry Cavill, in which they were asked for their reaction on the film’s poor reviews.

The #SadAffleck began with the 43-year-old American actor and Cavill’s Yahoo Movies interview with Tom Butler, who asked them what they thought of the mixed reviews the Warner Bros Pictures film has been getting. While Cavill, 33, is trying to keep the energy up by explaining the audiences’ response outweighs the negative reviews, Affleck is seen gazing downward and looking glum.

“I agree,” the actor, who plays Batman/Bruce Wayne, simply said following Cavill’s defence of the film.

His apparently sullen expression has ironically amused social media users. While some felt for Affleck, others were more fascinated with his reaction, which has now been made into a new #SadAffleck meme.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is Affleck’s first foray as Batman. Although comic book fans weren’t pleased with his casting when the news was first announced, he proved to be a worthy cape crusader, according to reviews. His performance as Bruce Wayne was praised, though his turn as Batman was, according to reviews, mediocre.

“There is nothing really wrong with his performance. But, when he dons the armoured version of the Batsuit to battle Superman, Affleck looks like a big, bad, clunky RoboCop. He become (sic) impersonal. Therefore, no emotional impact,” the Toronto Sun’s Bruce Kirkland wrote. He added that Affleck’s version of Bruce is “fascinating and sometimes moving.”

Forbes has a similar take. “Ben Affleck is a fine (underrated?) actor, but his Batman/Bruce Wayne is the least appealing cinematic incarnation of the character you’ve ever seen,” Scott Mendelson wrote.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was released in Australia on March 24. It also stars Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter.
