Fans of “Batman Arkham Knight” were expecting a new trailer to be released this week, but a new message from developer Rocksteady Games indicates the trailer’s release has been pushed back. In a bid to appease fans, the studio has promised the trailer will introduce a cool new feature to “Arkham Knight" and will feature the return of a familiar face.

The news comes via “Arkham Knight” game director Sefton Hill’s Twitter account. Hill acknowledges that the studio was set to announce a new trailer this week, but says that the studio has thought of a much more exciting way to handle its release. He goes on to apologise for the delay but promises new reveals that will make the wait worth it.

“Not to rub it in but I reviewed the latest edit and it's looking sweet, you might well see someone familiar from Arkham City in there. The trailer also shows off a very cool new feature to “Batman Arkham Knight” that no one outside of Rocksteady / Warner has seen before,” he teased.

Hill added that he had recently reviewed the latest edit of the trailer, describing it as “looking sweet,”before promising that while there are lots of cool stuff to show, most of “Batman Arkham Knight” will remain secret. The “Arkham” series of games is known for its misdirection, with marketing materials for both “Arkham City” and “Arkham Origins” indicating the villains were Dr. Hugo Strange and Black Mask, respectively, before revealing the Joker as the primary antagonist.

“Batman Arkham Knight” features a terrifying interpretation of the Scarecrow as the game’s primary villain. The alter-ego of psychologist Jonathan Crane has released a fear toxin on the streets of Gotham and intends to bring the city to his knees. Also heavily featured, as the title suggests, is the character of the Arkham Knight. As noted by VG24/7, the Arkham Knight represents the first completely new character created for the games by Rocksteady, and little is known about him except that he has a mysterious relationship with the Caped Crusader and wants him dead.

Originally scheduled for release late last year, “Batman Arkham Knight” is now scheduled to debut on June 23. The game will be released on Xbox One, PC and PS4, with a limited edition PS4 console available for fans.
