In “Bates Motel” Season 4 Episode 8, Norman (Freddie Highmore) will want Norma (Vera Farmiga) and Romero (Nestor Carbonell) to end their marriage. Norman was shocked to discover that his mother married the sheriff without his knowledge and consent, while he was staying at the mental institute.

"Norma is torn between Norman and Romero; during a holiday outing, Norman comes to the realization that everyone has changed during his time away,” stated the episode synopsis.

Norma actually married Sheriff Romero to use his insurance for Norman’s treatments at Pineview Institute. As soon as he found out that his mother married Romero, he planned a way to exit the institute and confront the two. Norma will eventually be forced to pick between her youngest son and new husband. Norma will be torn with the hard decision that she faces. If she chooses against Norman, there could be consequences for both her and Romero.

In the promo video, Norman was disappointed that his mother previously lied to him that there was nothing serious about her relationship with the White Pine Bay sheriff. Norman said that he knows that Norma has been sleeping with Romero. The couple apparently revealed to Norman the truth, and the latter will want nothing more than for them to end their relationship.

The video of the next episode, titled “Unfaithful,” also showed Norman talking to Romero. He thanked the sheriff for everything that he has done for him and advised him and his mother to get a divorce. However, Romero will not be too easy to persuade. He answered Norman that things have changed, but the latter responded that he is wrong and that the turn of things can never change.

In an interview with Showbiz Junkies, executive producer Carlton Cuse confirmed that there will be an altercation between Norman and Romero. They built the narrative so that the two characters would eventually collide, although he did not share more details on how it will happen. The idea of Norman accepting Romero as his stepfather and the fact that his mother is in a romantic relationship will be tackled in the following episodes.

“Bates Motel” Season 4 Episode 8 will air on May 2, 2016 on A&E.
