Hollywood couple Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are separating after two years of marriage. Lavigne announced the split via an Instagram post on Wednesday.

"It is with [a] heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments,” Lavinge wrote. “We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

This news may not surprise a lot of Lavigne and Kroeger’s followers, as rumours about their marriage troubles started to swirl soon after they tied the knot. Lavigne shrugged off those reports in an interview with People in April. The singer-songwriter said that Kroeger was “very supportive” during her battle with Lyme disease.

Last year in November, Kroeger also denied divorce rumours. At the time, the singer told Entertainment Tonight Canada, “You know, my dad calls me up and he's just like, 'I haven't slept in two days, what's going on? I'm like, 'Dad, you're not buying all this crap are you?' You know, I get to hear all the rumour mill stuff. I find it very amusing."

The “When You’re Gone” singer married the Nickelback frontman, Kroeger, in South of France in July 2013. According to E! News, the two exchanged their vows at a 14th century castle, Château de la Napoule, in Mandelieu. Around 50 guests of mostly family and close friends reportedly attended the former couple’s intimate wedding ceremony.

The Nickelback singer also gifted Lavigne a 17-carat ring on their first wedding anniversary in July 2014. Lavigne took to Twitter to show off her present, saying, "I still can't believe my 1 year anniversary gift. 17 carat emerald cut. Wow. I love my hubby." ET reported that the singer has since deleted the Twitter message.
