Phase Three in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has some drastic changes in store for the Avengers. “Avengers: Infinity War” will ultimately show the end of the superheroes as a team and Marvel Studios executive Jeremy Latcham has explained why.

Latcham hinted that the events in “Avengers: Infinity War” will herald the beginning of Phase Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he didn’t exactly emphasize what happens to the superheroes in the film, Latcham told Slashfilm during an interview that it “definitely is an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers.”

“Who knows exactly what is going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team—and I think we start to hint at it at the end of Age of Ultron—will be evolving,” he said.

However, Latcham assured that it will not be the end of Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would reportedly just be a team shakeup that is basically inspired by the comics.

“One of the things we love from the comics is that the roster is always changing and new people are coming onto the team, and you can pick up an Avengers book 10 years later and you don’t recognize the people on the cover. But the ideas and ideals and things that make the Avengers the Avengers still exist, and I think that’s part of what this culmination will be,” Latcham explained to Slashfilm.

Latcham also mentioned how this evolution in the Avengers team was already hinted in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” He didn’t go into details citing scenes from the film but Cinema Blend claimed Hawkeye and Iron Man’s return to their loved ones could be among the hints.

Likewise, it’s unclear if Hulk will be in “Infinity War” as he was left floating in space at the end of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Thor also decided to return to Asgard. The Avengers team were ultimately left few in numbers. So Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon and War Machine were brought in.

Marvel still has plenty of time to finalise on the movie as the first “Avengers: Infinity War” is not due until May 4, 2018. The second part is slated for release on May 3, 2019.
