“Avengers: Infinity War,” the next film starring the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is right around the corner. As the countdown begins for the film’s release, so does the anticipation for fans of its cast, especially when Chris Evans is concerned. Evans has portrayed Captain America ever since the character was first introduced in the MCU but he previously wrapped up the Captain America trilogy with 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” Now, only two films are left for the actor under his MCU contract: the last two Avengers films.

With that into account, some fans have been worried that the conclusion of the final Avengers films could spell out the end of Evans in the MCU. Such concerns are not necessarily unwarranted, especially with Evans himself stating that this could be the end of the road for him as Captain America.

At a recent appearance on “The Ellen Show,” Evans briefly touched on his upcoming activities with “Avengers: Infinity War.” Referred to as “Avengers 3” and “Avengers 4” (as the final Avengers film on the count still remains untitled), the two movies are the last ones slated for Evans per his contract to bring Captain America to the big screen.

“My contract is up,” Evans stated. “I have Avengers 3 and 4. We do Avengers 3 now; 4 is the latter part of the year. And then after that… that is the end of my contract.”

Though this might be the conclusion of Evans’ contract, there is still the possibility of an extension for him to take on the Captain America helm once more. This is all subject to the success of his forthcoming MCU films and negotiations between his camp and Marvel.

However, Evans has also expressed an interest in pursuing films by means of directing, having made his directorial debut with “Before We Go” back in 2014. As Evans has portrayed Captain America since the character’s first film, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” the actor has remained as Captain America for quite a lot of time. The possibility of Evans opting to retire from the role is thus still up in the air.

It’s also worth noting that Evans won’t be the only Avengers star throwing in the towel for their superhero counterparts. Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo will also be closing their doors to Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk, respectively, upon the release of the last Avengers films. That is unless they negotiate for extensions.
