The recent casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange reportedly coincides with Marvel's plan to re-shoot "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in January. Thus, this brought fans to wonder if the character will appear in the film.

In the Marvel Universe, Doctor Stephen Strange is an affluent neurosurgeon. However, a car accident crippled his arm, thus ending his surgical career. His search for a cure leads him to the mountains to find the Ancient One. He eventually becomes Sorcerer Supreme after mastering magic from the Earth's mystical defender. There have been previous reports of Doctor Strange making his first appearance in another Marvel film before his standalone debut. As per Inquisitr, he could appear not as Sorcerer Supreme but as a neurosurgeon. Coincidentally, the trailer for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" showed some hints as to the character's appearance. The video below at the 1:14 time mark shows a gurney and some surgical equipment, which clearly symbolises the character's profession. Likewise, from the 1:01 mark, Captain America enters what seems to be an abandoned mansion atop a mountain. The place is said to be a reference to Doctor Strange's refuge.

However, Enstarz claims Doctor Strange could appear in another Marvel film but not in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." The Sorcerer Supreme will supposedly likely have a cameo in "Captain America: Civil War." However, it's still uncertain if the character will be featured in the movie or possibly just at the end-credits scene.

It's also interesting to remember previous reports of the movie's plot involving the surgeon. According to the International Business Times, Tony Stark's Superhuman Registration Act will put the superhumans under a different leadership. Some will fall under Stark's command while the others under Captain America. According to the site, the super soldier will gather those superhumans under him and seek solace in Doctor Strange's refuge.

Still, Inquisitr contests it wouldn't make sense for Doctor Stephen Strange not to appear first in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." The character's backstory is reportedly needed before Captain America finds shelter in the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorum in "Civil War." To build up the surgeon's story, it's supposedly possible for Doctor Strange to be introduced first in a post-credit scene in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (May 1, 2015), then another as Easter Egg in "Ant-Man" (July 17, 2015) before appearing as a surgeon in "Captain America: Civil War" (May 6, 2016). However, despite all the possible scenarios, it's still uncertain which Marvel movie the character will be introduced first before his 2016 solo fim.
