In a recent interview, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” director Joss Whedon talked in-depth about Wanda Maximoff a.k.a Scarlet Witch and her relationship with her twin brother Pietro a.k.a. Quicksilver. The director also explained the extent of Scarlet Witch’s powers and what it can do to the Avengers.

In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Joss Whedon said Scarlet Witch is so powerful that she “can make you have a nightmare.” In “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Wanda Maximoff gets to “spend a little time inside the Avengers’ heads — either their past or their impressions of what’s going on, or their fears, or all of the above,” Whedon said. While the Avengers may reportedly find this invasion debilitating, it also comes out as revelatory since it gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of the heroes.

These “nightmare sequences,” as Comicbookmovie calls it, will no less feature other characters. During the interview Whedon confirmed Idris Elba, who plays Heimdall in “Thor,” as well as Hayley Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter, will have cameo roles in the sequel specifically during these nightmare scenes. Idris Elba once confirmed his appearance in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” to The Telegraph and even hinted of Tom Hiddleston’s cameo when he said his scene includes Thor and Loki.

In the same Buzzfeed interview, Elizabeth Olsen said playing the role of Scarlet Witch in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” gives her the opportunity to take charge of things and “be part of a strong turning point in the story.” In the video below, the actress also said her character “messes with all the Avengers to such an extent that they have to go somewhere and come back as a unit.” Joss Whedon likewise confirmed the extent of Scarlet Witch’s mind control powers. Wanda reportedly can get into the Avengers heads and bring out their worst fears or doubts.

However, Scarlet Witch wouldn’t exist without her twin brother Quicksilver always by her side. Aaron Taylor-Johnson told Buzzfeed that their character’s relationship, as brothers and sisters, is part of a Ying-Yang dynamic. He said Quicksilver represents the physical aspect for his power of speed, while Scarlet Witch is more on the psychological since she can mess with people’s minds.

Despite their differing powers the twins never leave each other’s side. Joss Whedon said Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are practically never apart in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” To pay homage to the character’s comicbook origin, Whedon said the sequel will basically have scenes showing the sibling’s closeness and overprotectiveness of each other.
