Joss Whedon may not return for “Avengers 3” and “Avengers 4.” The director of “Avengers: Age of Ultron" recently said in an interview that he is “doubtful” about helming the future “Avengers” instalment. He reportedly thinks it will be really hard to make the films.

“It’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life. I obviously still want to be a part of the Marvel Universe – I love these guys – but it ain’t easy,” added the director, according to Empire Magazine as qouted by Slash Film. Whedon also said that the he has had a very hectic year because of three projects and he can’t imagine doing it again.

With Whedon taking a step back, there is a rumour that the duo of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” Anthony and Joe Russo may direct “Avengers 3" and "Avengers 4.” Though this is just a rumour and there is no confirmation yet, there are major chances that the Russos can be roped in to direct the film, according to Screen Rant.

Apparently, Russo brothers are known for their great craftsmanship and they have delivered some of the best Marvel films till date, reported the website. Thus, it may happen that after they finish directing “Captain America: Civil War,” they may move on to Avengers sequel. It has also been rumoured that Whedon may not direct the films but he can be involved in writing the scripts. However, none of the reports have been confirmed yet.

“Avengers 3" and "Avengers 4” have been officially titled as “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2,” respectively. Both films will reportedly be set after the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” will follow the storyline of the Avengers who must come together to defeat Ultron, who is a threat to the human race. The cast of the film includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, James Spader and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is slated to be released on May 1, 2015.
