"Avengers 2" casts Ultron, and James Spader is the man -- or the voice, to be precise. In terms of reactions, fans seem OK - not thrilled, but fine - that a brilliant actor has been cast for "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

The Marvel news on James Spader playing Ultron did not spark widespread criticism the way the Ben Affleck as Batman update did a couple of days ago. So far, so good for Joss Whedon and Avengers 2.

Spader can't be messed with when it comes to acting brilliance. Perhaps this is why there's no widespread he-can't-act-the-part reactions among the netizens this time. This 3-time Emmy Award winner ("Boston Legal," "The Practice") also impressed moviegoers recently in "Lincoln," a bio directed by Steven Spielberg. Before he could impress as Ultron vs The Avengers, Spader will be seen as an international criminal working alongside FBI on U.S. TV. Catch him this fall on NBC's "The Blacklist."

But wait - Who is Ultron? ('What' is sort of better!)

Not a comic book fan but enjoyed the 2012 epic superhero film "The Avengers?" Here's what you need to know about Ultron, and how James Spader would appear (or not really) in the 2015 film.

- Ultron is a robot that poses grave threats against the Avengers.

- Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym, a founding member of the Avengers, created Ultron with good intentions.

- Several Ultron stories have been developed in Marvel comics since 1968. Joss Whedon is expected to surprise his audience in The Avengers 2 (2015) aka "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

- Ultron ultimately wants to rule the world.

- Ultron is quite a powerful supervillain with his heightened strength, stamina, as well as flight and energy blast abilities. The robot is one of the worst anti-Avengers villains.

The 2012 film "Marvel's The Avengers" earned $1.5 billion globally. Joss Whedon has some huge numbers to aim in 2015 for "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, and Robert Downey Jr are all expected to reprise their roles for the epic sequel.
