The most popular pet names in Australia have been revealed.

According to the data based on Medibank Pet Insurance members, the most popular pet name in Australia is “Bella.” The name turns out to be the most popular one no matter if it’s a cat or a dog.

The most popular names for a family dog also include Charlie, Max, Molly, Ruby, Coco, Buddy, Oscar, Lucy and Toby. While the most popular cat names also include most of these names, other names in the top ten list for cats are Missy, Mia, Tiger and Jasper.

According to the Medibank Pet Insurance data, the most popular dog breed for Australians in 2015 is Maltese Cross. Other breeds in the top ten list are Labrador, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Golden Retriever, Cavoodle, German Shepherd, Border Collie, Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross, Jack Russell Terrier Cross and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

On the other hand, the most popular cat breed is Domestic Short Hair. Other breeds in the top ten list are Domestic House Cat, Domestic Medium Hair, Ragdoll, Tabby, Burmese, Domestic Long Hair, Unknown Cat Breed, Moggie and British Short Hair.

According to Medibank Pet Insurance Manager Nathan Crothers, pets happen to be one of the popular Christmas gifts as well. ““This Christmas, in addition to buying a new collar or squeaky toy, make sure buy pet insurance,” Crothers said in a media release. “The last thing you want to have to do is choose between your pet and your wallet in the case of an emergency, and pet insurance gives you and your family peace of mind.”

Around 63 per cent of the Australian population own a pet. The most common ailments dogs and cats are diagnosed with during this time of the year are torn ligaments, ear infections, arthritis and skin conditions.
