Australian singer Courtney Barnett is riding high on success these days. The singer has been nominated for eight Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards, precisely called ARIA awards.

The singer recently opened up about her feelings after dominating the ARIA award nominations during an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH). "I don't think I'm an amazing artist, but I do it and I try, and that's one thing that I've done totally on my own, like, I write the songs but there's so many other people involved,” SMH quoted the singer.

Courtney Barnett is set to face tough competition from Hermitude and Vance Joy as they too feature on the list of nominees for ARIA awards. Barnett has received eight award nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Independent Release and Best Australian Live Act for her album “Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit” that was released on March 20, 2015.

“Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit” reached the fourth position in Australian Albums (ARIA) and was on the 20th position in US Billboard 200. The album even secured first position on Billboard’s US Top Rock Albums.

However, the 28-year old singer will not be able to attend the awards that will be held at The Star, Sydney on Thursday, due to her work commitments, but she is not complaining. "Just not built to do speeches. I prefer not to be at awards shows because I find them really nerve-racking. I'm kind of glad I'm not there for the ARIAs," she said. Instead, Barnett will be performing at a three-week tour of Germany, Britain and Paris when the winners to ARIAs will be announced.

The Melbourne-based singer became a well-known name in the music industry in 2013 with her second EP “How to Carve a Carrot into a Rose” and there was no looking back since then.

Taking a glimpse at her personal life, Barnett is openly gay and is in a live-in relationship with her girlfriend Jen Cloher. The two have been dating since 2011 and are currently living in Melbourne. Barnett even penned down a song titled “Numbers” on her relationship with Cloher.
