Former “Australian Idol” Wes Carr wrote a song for the victims of the Sydney Siege after the Lindt Café hostage drama concluded on Tuesday morning. Inspired by the Australian people’s compassion and support following the tragic event, the 32-year-old crooner recorded “I Pray” hours after the siege ended.

“I Pray” speaks of tolerance of religious beliefs and love for everyone. It has been shared over 13,000 times since it was uploaded on Facebook on Tuesday.

Carr, who won the sixth season of “Australian Idol” in 2008, admitted that he should have been rehearsing for his upcoming show about George Harrison, but his uneasiness about the whole situation forced him to do something else.

“In everything that has happened over the last 24 hours I pray we can learn from this and come together as a people no matter what and who we are. If you can’t find love right now, try to at least find hope instead of anger!” (sic) he captioned the video, adding that he wrote the song just an hour ago.

On Wednesday, he thanked his followers for sharing his song and giving such positive response to it. “I am so deeply humbled my song ‘I Pray’ has resonated with so many,” he wrote. “To the Lives lost in the madness that transpired in Sydney, Rest In Peace. To their families we send you all strength. To the insanity that is happening around the world, we will OVERCOME it with pure, positive LOVE and strength.”

Carr’s song follows the online social campaign #IllRideWithYou, which Australians post online to show their support to their Muslim brothers and sisters. The trending hashtag was started by Tessa Kum, who was inspired by the compassion shown by Rachael Jacobs to a Muslim woman who felt compelled to take off her hijab during a train ride in fear of harassment.
