A new update is coming to "Splatoon" on August 5. The update will bring with it two new matchmaking modes, weapons, a level cap increase and an additional 40 pieces of gear for players.

The multiplayer-focused third-person shooter will receive a new mode called Squad Battle. This will allow players to create a squad and choose members of their own and play in a Ranked Battle, instead of being paired with random teammates. The other new matchmaking mode is Private Battle, which supports custom matches for two to eight friends.

After the update rolls out, Regular and Ranked Battle modes will have their level caps raised from 20 to 50. Players will also be able to reach a maximum rank of S and S+, which are one to two levels higher than the current A and A+ ranks.

As for the weapons, the update will introduce the Slosher, a bucket-like projectile that functions closely to a mortar. It hurls paint forward and at long distances and will be useful for hitting enemies in out-of-reach sniping perches. Another new weapon is the Splatling, which Splatoon's equivalent of a Gatling gun. New gear, which ranges from a leather jacket to a sushi chef costume, will be introduced.

According to video gaming website Polygon, the upcoming update is part of Nintendo's free post-release content for "Splatoon." Back in May, Nintendo announced a free summertime content for the game. The company said that future updates will include the Rainmaker Ranked Battle mode, as well as new maps and weapons.

Meanwhile, just a couple of days ago, Techtimes reported that Nintendo released a new map into the map rotation. In the new Camp Triggerfish, players can easily exit and enter bases if the flood gates are down. Camp Triggerfish has been already added to the "Splatoon" stage rotation since July 24, so gamers can now go to camp and enjoy the new stage on the game.
