Auckland Mayor Len Brown is adamant that he will not step down from power. The controversial New Zealand politician has admitted that he had an affair with former council advisory board member Bevan Chuang, but refuses to give up his position.

Hours after the news of his affair with Ms Chuang broke, the mayor, who is married to lawyer Shan Inglis with three daughters, appeared on the TV3 program "Campbell Live" to plead for the public and the media to give his family privacy.

"I'm here primarily for my family," Mr Brown said. "As I go through this, and as I acknowledge this relationship to shame, I want the community and the media to respect my family."

"I have cost my wife and children harm and shame and humiliation. And I want the media and the community, please as much as they can, to respect my family as I go through this time."

As for his political career, Mr Brown is refusing to let it go down.

"I've been re-elected as the mayor. A very, very strong majority of people, nearly half of the people who voted said they wanted me as mayor. I love that job with a passion. And I love the city. So yes, it's my intention to stay as the mayor."

Whaleoil.co.nz blog exposed the mayor's affair on Tuesday, though it did not name Mr Brown's other woman. However, the media quickly picked up and promptly named 32-year-old Ms Chuang as his mistress of two years.

The politician has then appeared on "Campbell Live" to address the scandal.

According to Whale Oil blogger Cameron Slater, he has decided to hold back the information until after the election result. Mr Brown, 57, was just elected for a second term on Saturday.

The blogger wrote that the "barely two-minute Brown" had unprotected sex with his mistress, then still unnamed, on more than a dozen separate times during office hours. They were even caught in the act at one time by a security guard when they were doing the deed in the "Ngati Whatua Room" at the Auckland Town Hall.

"He'd also tell me he would masturbate at home in the morning before coming to work and I'd be the one he'd be thinking of - not his wife who must have been just metres away, but me," the woman's sworn affidavit reads.

Mr Brown was rated four out of ten rating in the lovemaking skills by the woman, who added that he treated her no better than a "porn star."

"At least if I was a hooker I would have got something out of this, but I got nothing. I was starting to feel like Monica Lewinsky," she said, referring to former U.S. President Bill Clinton's mistress.

The mistress, who met the mayor in May 2011 at a council function, said that she received an ominous text message a week before the story was exposed.

"You should be more careful what you share with the slaters. Any hope you had of a career in public office just disappeared along with your human decency," the text message reads.

The Hong Kong-born Ms Chuang has been hiding from the public after she has been identified by the media.

After her exposure, she added to the blogger that she was treated with antibiotics earlier in 2013 for Chlamydia, which she suspects that she had contacted from Mr Brown.

Ms Chuang made headlines in January of 2012 when she called for potential sperm donors to help her conceive a "dragon baby."

She wanted to get pregnant that year so that her baby would be born in the Chinese year of the Dragon. Since she went public with her desire, at least 20 interested men had contacted her.
