The Atlanta Police Department has introduced the ‘Atlanta PD Mobile’ app, which is its first ever smartphone app. The app is available in Apple App Store and Google Play Store, according to reports.

The app can be downloaded free of cost and it gives access to alerts, events and other news from the Atlanta Police Department and besides that it also links to its accounts in social media and YouTube channel, reports AJC.com.

The app offers the ‘Crime Stoppers’ button through which users can submit anonymous tips on arsons, assaults, fugitives, homicides and to follow up on their tip, users can also enter a password. Besides that, it also has the ‘Crime Maps’ button that gives details on various incident happening throughout the city. Interested users can thoroughly read through the crimes in chronological list form or zoom in on the map to choose color- and letter-coded icons in their vicinity, according to the AJC.com report.

Last year in December, the Detroit Police Department had also launched a smartphone app to connect with residents, according to a report on CBS Detroit.

The app, developed by Detroit Labs was aimed at expanding the reach and connectivity of the department and its officers to smartphone users. The app not only provided information about the city and departments but it also allowed users to submit tips anonymously through the app. As the tips reach the department through a series of filters, anonymous users cannot be tracked. The app had some advanced features that allowed publishing news releases like statistics, major crime summary reports and missing persons reports; connect to department’s social media pages; find details like phone numbers, emails for precincts, captains and local police officers, CBS Detroit reported.

As per the CBS Detroit report, the app developed by Detroit Labs was also made available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.
