Another year brings the reveal of yet another major entry in the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise, this time, in the form of “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.” Following a weekend tease, publisher/developer Ubisoft has revealed a barrage of information about this fall’s release, including a trailer, a gameplay walkthrough, an official Q&A and much more.

Set in the open-world of Victorian London, this year’s adventure sees players take on the roles of Jacob and Evie Frye, twin siblings running one of London’s most notorious underground gangs. The debut trailer, hosted on the official “Assassin’s Creed” YouTube channel, sets the stage for a new era for mankind, with the emergence of technology and capitalism usurping the power of Kings and mysticism.

Those looking for more depth will find it in the accompanying gameplay walkthrough, also found on the “Assassin’s Creed” YouTube channel. The nine minute video provides an overview of what’s new to the universe, as well as elements long-time fans will no doubt find familiar. Major changes include upgrades to combat, manoeuvrability and the inclusion of trains and carriages as a form of transportation.

Citing trains and carriages as an iconic part of Victorian-era London, the video explains that gamers will be able to get around the city faster than ever using carriages. The trailer adds that gamers will be able to hide in them, run over targets and enemies, and leap from carriage to carriage.

Discussing navigation and manoeuvrability, the video goes over one of the newest tools in the Assassin’s toolbox; the rope launcher, which allows gamers to scale vertical buildings and traverse horizontal gaps with ease. Also overhauled has been the game’s combat system, which is punchier, more responsive and focuses on close quarters combat and brawling. As part of an official Q&A obtained by DualShockers, the developers explained that the reason for setting the game in 1863, London.

“Although the new game takes place only seventy years after the French Revolution featured in ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity,’ it is as though a thousand years have passed. In this short period of time, technological breakthroughs enabled humanity to evolve from a medieval society into the modern world we know today,” explains the Q&A.

The document goes on to explain that a number of famous locations will be featured in the game, including Big Ben, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, the River Thames, Waterloo Station and more. DualShockers also obtained a large batch of screenshots and artwork, showing off the game’s gorgeously rendered visuals.

Following Ubisoft’s recent decision to abandon AAA development on Xbox 360 and PS3, “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate” will be released exclusively on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The game is set for release on Oct. 23 on console, with a Windows PC release available some time during fall 2015.
