Love lives and reputations may be at risk after the release of customer data from infidelity website Ashley Madison, an unprecedented breach of privacy likely to rattle users' attitudes towards the Internet. Hackers dumped a big cache of data containing millions of email addresses for U.S. government officials, UK civil servants and high-level executives at European and North America corporations late on Tuesday, the latest cyber attack to raise concerns about Internet security and data protection. The Ashley Madison leak has revealed the “most adulterous” cities in Australia in terms of having user accounts in the adult dating website. Several major cities like Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Victoria, Frankston and Melton are among the cities with top number of accounts on the website.

The website, owned by Canada-based company Avid Life Media, takes pride in calling itself “the most famous name in infidelity,” and encourages married couples to cheat on their partners. It suffered a massive breach in July, and its user accounts were hacked.

Data scientists have come up with an interesting analysis of the leaked information. A number of users did not wish to reveal their real location. When asked for postcodes, several users provided 2000 (Sydney) or 3000 (Melbourne). As a result, the number of users with such postcodes on the website is more than the actual population in those cities, Fairfax Media reported.

An analysis by The Washington Post reveals most users on the married dating website lie about their date of birth. More than 36 million different birthdates are registered with the website. Jan. 1 is the most common date of birth among all of them. One of every 12 people claims that they were born on New Year’s Day.

Several other people, while registering with the website to be able to cheat on their partner, claim they were born on the Valentine’s Day. The least common date of birthday is Feb. 29.

The main reason behind the reluctance to pick up the exact date of birth may be the fact that the users are aware the website wants to know their date of birth only to make sure they are over 18. They may have been more concerned about choosing the right year of birth. Some of the common dates of birth on the website are 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 and so on. The users decided to choose the same number of for the date and the month.
