In response to Ashley Judd’s memoir revealing the drug use and sexual abuse as she was growing up, the “Heat” star’s mother, Naomi Judd has admitted that indeed, Ashley may have been ‘neglected’ as a child.

Host Barbara Walters asked Naomi’s reaction to Judd’s abuse claims, asking to confirm the revelation made by her daughter.

“In a way, I do, but the thing I want to acknowledge is I adore my daughter, these two girls and my husband, of course, Larry, are the joy of my life and I support Ashley,” Naomi told Walters during her guest appearance on “The View”.

As noted in an article by IBTimes last week, Ashley Judd detailed in her memoir titled, “All That Is Bitter & Sweet,” the emotional trauma she had undergone as a kid. This, she said, stemmed from the sexual abuse she suffered from a family friend. The “Someone Like You” star and human rights activist also underscored in her memoir her ‘lonely childhood’ after having been neglected by her mother who was working her career as a country singer, along with her sister, Wynonna.

Naomi and her other daughter, Wynonna appeared on “The View” to promote their documentary series called, “The Judds”.

The documentary, which will be a six-part series, premieres on Sunday on The Oprah Winfrey Network.

Reuters earlier said in a report that Naomi had also expressed her hopes for Ashley’s book in a statement sent to “Today”.

"I love my daughter. I hope her book does well," Naomi was quoted as saying by Reuters in a separate statement sent to “Today”.

Ashley responded to her mother’s earlier reaction on her memoir as ‘exquisitely gracious’. Her memoir has created a buzz in the entertainment industry, which she later defended as her way to make the public understand the advocacy for women and human rights that she is involved in.
