Synology Inc recently launched their DiskStation DS1010+ NAS (Network Attached Storage) server which features an aggressive mix of scalability, storage capacity and business features clearly targeting the mid-range Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) market.
Offering five 3.5" hard disk drive bays for a total of 10TB of storage capacity the Synology DS1010+ is equipped with a 1.67 GHz CPU, a 64-bit memory bus, two Gigabit LAN ports, four USB ports and 1GB worth of DDRII RAM which can be scaled up to 3GB. The two Gigabit LAN ports in themselves offer multiple features from the ability to handle multiple networks at one time or to offer failover and increased load balancing performance to a single network. Offering full support for multiple RAID modes the NAS delivers at least 5TB of RAID supported network accessed storage but it can be scaled up to 20TB by adding on the soon-to-be-launched Synology DX510.
Consuming only 68 watts of power the Synology DiskStation DS1010+ not only saves power but offers a host of business oriented features. Powered by the new Synology DiskStation Manager 2.2, this includes cross platform data sharing, Windows ADS integration, an encrypted FTP server, a business mail server, a web server, a corporate IP surveillance server and USB printer sharing capabilities. A built-in firewall keeps data safe while the NAS itself delivers an average 115+ MB/sec reading speed under RAID 5 and 109+ MB/sec write performance with a web server responsiveness rate of only 30.81 seconds to handle 1000 simultaneous requests.
