Controversial radio host Howard Stern is one of the latest possibilities rumoured to replace Simon Cowell of the popular television series, American Idol. Cowell announced last month that the show's current season is to be his last when his contract with the series ends this May.
Since then, many celebrities have been linked or expressed interest in taking over Cowell's day job as the resident 'nasty' judge. Among them are music executive Tommy Mottola, actor/singer Jamie Foxx, homemaker extraordinaire Martha Stewart, recent guest judges Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry, and even American Idol's host, Ryan Seacrest.
Stern is known for "The Howard Stern Show" which airs on two uncensored channels on satellite radio service, Sirius XM Radio. The self-titled "King of All Media" often offers controversial commentaries and segments discussing various topics, convincing Idol executives to believe that he could be "nastier than Simon". Incidentally, Stern's contract with Sirius XM will also expire by next January where he recently expressed that he is looking for a new job.
"(American Idol) is one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract", tells a source in New York Post's Page Six. Stern himself revealed last Wednesday on his radio show that he was "approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show." He said, "I started to entertain it and think about it, and then I probably think my demands are pretty heavy and they were attempting to negotiate and I said 'you don't have to'."
