While news about AMD's Fusion processors has been scant ever since their much earlier announcement, recent events and launches have indicated that they're coming back in a big way for 2010.
According to sources who have attended these events, the new line of AMD Fusion processors are set to incorporate GPUs much like Intel's recently released GPU integrated Core and Atom processors.
The major difference here will be that instead of incorporating a measly mainstream GPU offering like Intel's own Graphics Media Accelerator line, AMD will be incorporating higher-end GPUs from ATI.
Instead of going for AMD's previous integrated GPUs like the ATI Radeon HD 3200 and 3300 AMD will be utilizing GPUs from their ATI Radeon HD 4000 and ATI Radeon HD 5000 lineup.
Although the ATI Radeon HD 4200 has made an appearance in AMD's previous 785G chipset refresh, AMD execs have stated that the new GPUs to be integrated into the AMD Fusion processors will fit more with the midrange to performance-class user.
If AMD maintains their current value-priced strategy for these new processors, this means a whole new niche market will be opened up.
Rather than force users to get midrange and performance level graphic cards and the motherboards that can support these graphic cards, users can instead just get a single performance-level AMD Fusion processor and play the latest 3D Games and HD Video for a much more affordable price point.
This makes for a huge ripple effect if or when these new AMD Fusion processors find their way into your notebook, netbook or desktop of choice. Current news indicates that the new processors are set to be released in the first quarter of 2010, but as before actual figures about the processors are scant.
