Bluray will rule the world one day. Let's be an early adapter
There is no doubt sooner or later, Bluray discs will overtake DVD and CDs as the primary optical disc in computing world. just like when CDs took over the crown from those 1.44MB floppy discs. More and more PC builders are building bluray drives onto their mid to high end systems and it's only a matter of time for the lower end PC's to catch up. We have an Asus external Bluray drive this month and the research team testing the theory of Bluray discs replacing DVDs.
Shaped like a cut diamond when viewed at a particular angle, the Asus External Bluray drive is a tiny bit thicker than some of the slim external drives. To their defense the word "slim" was never printed on the box of Asus might not be marketing it as "slim" drive.
It's a pretty simple drive with only one mini USB port at the back and a chrome eject button front. However, when plugged in, the drive's "X" pattern on top lights in blue and although that does nothing much other than trying to be nice, it's a nice touch to the otherwise bland exterior.
Asus bundled Cyberlink's PowerDVD9 software with the drive so you will have no problems finding Bluray movie player for it. We really hope that Microsoft will have Bluray disc playback with the Windows Media Player though.
The thing we like about optical disc technology is that it's always backward compatible, which means you will have no problems reading your collection of burnt CDs and DVDs with the drive.
