'Black Panthers' intimidating voters on election day: Report

04 November 2008 @ 04:22 pm AEST

Two men thought to be Black Panthers were intimidating voters at a polling place in Philadelphia, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

The report said Chris Hill a Republican poll watcher called the network saying the men were Black Panthers and one of them was holding a night stick.

"Other people here have confirmed that another person in Black Panther attire was holding a night stick and apparently the concern was that they were intimidating people who were trying to go inside to vote," Leventhal reported according to Fox News.

But there were not any proves that the men in fact intimidated voters according to Leventhal. "There's been no disturbances that I'm aware of, except what we've encountered here. But again, I want to make very clear, we don't know that any voters were denied entrance to this polling facility. We don't know that anyone was intimidated to the point that they decided not to vote here, but that was what some people were concerned might be happening with two Black Panthers, one of them holding a nightstick, out front."

Police reportedly arrived to the place and escorted away the man with the night stick. Police also asked Fox News to leave the place. Fox hasn't provided the name of the men or confirmed whether they really belong to the Black Panthers but promises to further report at 5 p.m ET.
