San Francisco - Nokia's first touch screen phone, which is viewed as a major competitor to Apple's iPhone, will go on sale in seven countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

The firm confirmed that its new phone will be available in India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain by the end of this year.
The N 5800 will cost $387 before operator subsidies and taxes, a fee which is slightly lower than that of the iPhone.
Nokia entered a market for touch screen phones joining Apple, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics.
Nokia's senior president of marketing, Jo Harlow said the N5800 has more features that are lacking in the iPhone citing an example of being able to support Adobe Flash multimedia technology which is not supported by the iPhone.
"We want to turn the user interface into a human interface," said Harlow.
