“Arrow” Season 5 will attempt to replicate the same tone of action scenes that are featured in “Game of Thrones,” Executive Producer Wendy Mericle has said. The TV series plans to return to some gritty street level action after the introduction of a villain with supernatural powers resulted in lackluster response from the viewers.

[Spoiler alert]

Speaking with TV Line, Mericle said that we now live in the universe where shows like “Game of Thrones” are gaining popularity. She was particularly interested in the way the HBO TV series deals with violence and how they show the fight sequences.

“Arrow” will now attempt to do something with its action sequences that will be similar to what “Game of Thrones” is doing, Mericle said. She described the fight scenes in the next season as “bloody” and “amazing.” She teased that the viewers will feel like they are in the action sequences.

Mericle revealed that they are doing a lot of “first person” fight scenes, but they won’t necessarily be “point of view” action sequences. She explained that the scenes n “Arrow” Season 5 will feel real and “in your face.”

Lead cast member Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen) was apparently the proponent of this kind of action. The actor had previously teased that he has filmed the most brutal scene in network television history and that it was a one-shot.

Besides the action, the show also promises a lot of drama. Talking about Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Mericle revealed that the character is in the same place Diggle (David Ramsey) is in.

Felicity will be drowning in guilt in “Arrow” season 5 because of what happened at Havenrock. On top of that she has just broken up with Oliver and also lost her company. Mericle said that the character will be in a state of “limbo” until gets past her guilt.
