‘Arrow’ season 5 Olicity’s breakup is not about distrust, truth will reveal soon
Olicity’s breakup was not actually about distrust but something more profound. The good news is that it will finally be revealed on “Arrow” season 5.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim has teased that Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) will soon have to face the truth behind her breakup with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). Apparently, the huge revelation will pick up from the events of the upcoming "Dangerous Liasons" episode which will air later this month.
“This is definitely an examination of the state of their breakup. It comes out of the events of 519 [‘Dangerous Liaisons’] and, quite frankly, all the other episodes that led up to it. Something happens in 519 that really tees up this conversation,” Guggenheim told TV Line.
In episode 19, Felicity is going rogue. She will get frustrated when the team can’t pin down the crimes on Star City on Adrian Chase, aka Prometheus. Felicity believes that Helix is the only way they can take down Chase.
The promo for the episode shows Oliver tries to convince Felicity to stop whatever she is planning to do and listen to him. But Felicity instead tells him that it is her decision whether or not she wants to stay with Team Arrow. (See teaser below.)
“Dangerous Liasons” will be followed by “Underneath” episode which will focus on the heartbreaking breakup of the tech-savvy character to Oliver. “They never really had a full-on discussion or exploration of why that breakup happened. Felicity just sort of reached her breaking point and walked out the door,” Guggenheim said.
Amell previously teased the episode on Twitter. In a post last month, the actor hinted that there will be an episode in this season of “Arrow” wherein all his scenes will be with one actor only. According to Amell, it is his first time to do such an episode.
Fans have seen how the Oliver-Felicity relationship blossomed through the years. In season 5, Felicity called off their engagement after Oliver kept his son a secret from her.
Felicity first decided to leave Team Arrow. Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) death motivated her to return to the team. Ollie and Felicity reconciled and work together again along with the rest of Team Arrow.
Since the breakup, Felicity had dated Star City detective Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter). Billy was unintentionally killed by Oliver after he was tricked by Prometheus. As for Oliver, he got involved with reporter Susan Williams (Carly Pope).
The CW series is currently in a brief hiatus. “Arrow” season 5 will return on April 26 at 8/7c in the SU. The Olicity-centred episode will air on May 3. It also airs on Foxtel in Australia.
