“Arrow” Season 4, Episode 20 (“Genesis”) aired May 4 on The CW. In this week’s new episode, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) meet Esrin Fortuna (Gabriella Wright), another DC Comics character. Then viewers learned about Hub City and the Genesis initiative of immortal Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough).

Spoiler alert: This review recaps the highlights of “Arrow” Season 4, Episode 20. Some details on the next episode (Arrow 4x21, “Monument Point”) are also included.

Esrin Fortuna is an immortal shaman associated with another DC Universe hero, Constantine (who also appears in “Arrow” Season 4). Esrin reminds Oliver Queen in Hub City that he has to fight his own darkness to repel Darhk. Oliver wins briefly against Darhk after that, as if empowered by the voices of Felicity, Thea, and Black Canary -- and her message of hope from beyond.

Andy Diggle (Eugene Byrd) dies in Arrow 4x20. John Diggle (David Ramsey) kills his brother upon realizing that his wife and baby are never going to be safe with Andy around. This changes Dig in a big way, though absolutely no one in the team is judging him for what he has done. The biggest problem now is Darhk’s Project Genesis.

Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson) tells Team Arrow that Darhk took the Rubicon, a powerful device protected by A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group United Support) because it can end the world. Like Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) in “Arrow” Season 1, Darhk wants a major society reset, only in a horribly grander scale.

Also in “Arrow” Season 4, Episode 20: Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and boyfriend Alex Davis (Parker Young) are caught in a matrix-like world, possibly the site of Darhk’s post-Genesis life. Oliver does not know her sister is in danger. It remains to be seen whether this is part of Malcolm’s arrangement with the Darhks to keep Thea protected when Genesis unfolds.

Since Esrin Fortuna has enlightened Oliver on fighting Damien Darhk’s magic, there is hope for Team Arrow to succeed against, even kill Darhk. Aside from magic, however, the team would need a mad computer whiz team. So in Arrow 4x21, Felicity reaches out to her father, Noah Kuttler a.k.a. The Calculator (Tom Amandes). The team also gets help from Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum).

“Arrow” Season 4, Episode 21 (“Monument Point”) airs May 11 on The CW.
