Just in time before “Justice League” and the rest of the DC standalone films start rolling out, things are heating up for “Aquaman.” The iconic Atlantian superhero is gearing up for his own movie and production is going on full swing in Australia.

While every fan is excited to see the handsome Jason Momoa take on full battle gear and rule the oceans as the King of Atlantis, fans are also excited to see his other half, Queen Mera, who will be played by Amber Heard. Reports show that Heard has been training really hard for the role.

A tweet by @RealFada (Sean Murphy) has a short clip of the actress in training mode. The video shows the actress showing off her athletic prowess by vaulting off towards a camera while throwing simulated punches. Amber Heard can also be seen training in a gym while other stunt actors are practise acrobatic moves in front of a mirror. While some critics were expecting underwater action to be about fishes and waves, this behind-the-scenes look certainly proves them wrong.

While fans know Aquaman to be the ever powerful king of Atlantis with the power to command every creature of the seas to his will, his wife Queen Mera is an equally powerful ally. Mera herself was an undersea queen in an alien world called Dimension Aqua in the comics. Mera was then exiled and sent to earth, where she met Aquaman. Later on, she would give birth to a baby who will get kidnapped by their nemesis Black Manta. The child is poisoned and dies. This causes relationship issues between her and Aquaman.

Just like her husband, she has the ability to breathe underwater, travel across different dimensions, perform hydrokinesis and has super strength. Queen Mera also has telepathic abilities. However, unlike Aquaman, she cannot use this to command lower order marine life.

Amber Heard is not the only member of the cast who has already started training for the film. Just recently, Coming Soon also posted a video of Jason Momoa training for his upcoming film in Australia made the rounds online. The short footage showed dozens of actors at work. At the end, Momoa was seen pointing towards an Aquaman comic book that was lying around, probably his basis for his rendition of the role.

“Aquaman” is expected to hit theatres in October 2018. Before that, Momoa is set to appear in the same role on “Justice League,” which premieres Nov. 16, 2017.
